The Missive Project is just one of many underway which address the possibility of civilization-wide collapse with efforts to preserve knowledge. Some focus on certain aspects of knowledge; others are 'curatorial' collections of essential works; others are 'time capsule' approach. Seed, technology, gene and art vaults are being pursued.
Where this project differs from others (to the best of my knowledge) is an emphasis on kernelized knowledge, and rendition of content into poetic form.
In my opinion, the more such efforts, the better. No approach is sure, and the more avenues are pursued, the more likely that one or more will successfully fulfill their mission.
For a list of similar projects, see this post from The Long Now's Manual for Civilization.
